Frequently Asked Questions

Final pastel portrait

How much is a portrait?

I offer a few different sizes with prices. You can view them all listed on the prices section of the website or by clicking the button below. Prices include Royal Mail special delivery. Extra charges are added for additional pets or detailed backgrounds.

What are Pastels?

A pastel is an art medium fabricated from one or several finely ground pigments, a pulverized inert whiter filler such as ground calcium carbonate, and a miniscule amount of binder such as gum tragacanth. It can exist in a variety of forms, including a stick, a square, a pebble, and a pan of colour, among other forms. Pastel is usually drawn on paper, which must have a slight texture or "tooth" to grab and hold the medium on its surface.

How long does a portrait take?

The time it takes to complete a portrait once you are booked in always varies depending on how many bookings I have at any one time. When you get booked in I will add you to my waiting list with a rough estimation on timing. Each portrait differs on timing depending on the complexity, usually 1-2 weeks per commission. I can't always guarantee I can work to a desired deadline but if you mention a certain date I can see about fast tracking your portrait. Please mention this beforehand.

Can I use plexiglass/perspex?

It is highly desired that you do not use plexiglass or perspex. However, if you truly desire to then please make sure to get it treated beforehand to prevent static and use a mount or frame spacers. You can find framing instructions by clicking the button below.

How do I commission?

The best way to commission a portrait is by getting in touch with me on my contact page. We can discuss what you would like and how to move forward.

What format for the photos?

Digital is preferred using a phone or camera for me to adapt the image if need be for the composition. Please send them in the highest resolution possible so it captures all the details. Make sure the subject is in focus, fills the frame, and natural lighting is used.

Can you add or remove things for the portrait?

Upon request I can add or remove anything you would like for the portrait. However, once the portrait has started it may be impossible to change drastic parts of the drawing. Please make sure to request anything beforehand.

How do I pay for my portrait?

Payment can be made to Hope Collier direct into my bank or by Paypal. I ask for a 40% non-refundable deposit before I start working and the balance is due upon completion before shipment.

Is my pet portrait guaranteed to be delivered on time?

Yes, so far I have never missed a deadline. However please be aware that I cannot be held responsible for delivery problems due to adverse weather conditions or other factors beyond my control.

Do you do human portraits?

At the moment I do not do solely human portraits. However, I have drawn the odd torso, arm, leg, hands etc when included with the pet. This may change in the future depending on desirability.

Can you ship your portraits outside of the UK?

Yes, I have sent my portraits all over the world including America and Canada. Distance shouldnt stop you from wanting to order a lovely gift. Please contact me for details and a quote for shipping.

Do you do discounts for multiple portraits?

My prices are already the lowest they can be per portrait at the moment so I don't offer discounts if you are purchasing more than one portrait.
